June 6, 1962: Camping north of Grand Marais.  Mom strikes thumb while driving tent stake “Ouch!”.  Breaking camp, June 7, 1962.  Grand Portage and entry into Pigeon River border crossing, ON, Canada.  Port Arther (now Thunder Bay), ON, Fort William, ON, back through Pigeon River, camping at Big Pine Lake parking area in MN.  Fr. Hennepin State Park Wayside,  The Pram Dinghy on Mille Lacs lake.  The 6-day vacation comes to an end.
20:06	Di and Sue tend to an adolescent Bluejay in Staples.  Di and Dave play on jungle gym.
20:47	Lakeside at Four Point Lake.  Di and Sue tend the garden, Dave in the way.  Dad puts in stakes.
21:43	July 5, 1962: Diane’s birthday party in Staples.
21:58	Visiting Great Grandma Thea, age 88, in Fergus Falls, MN
22:28	Rusty, Sandi and Jerry Olson stayed with us and played Wagon Train. along with Barb Baustian.
23:02	Visiting Inspiration Peak ~near Fergus Falls. 23:21: Viking Museum, Alexandria, MN.  Barb Baustian also made the trek.
24:43	Dad’s new suit that Mom made, kids play in pool.
25:19	August 7, 1962: Puppies Ginger and Jet come to live with us.
25:54	October 10, 1962: Moved to the Farm!  (currently 48646 277th Ave, Staples, MN) Our new 75-acre backyard.
26:24	November 12, 1962: 55°F today; grandpa Carl visits to help build new septic tank.
26:54	December 1, 1962: 54°F & Going Up.  “Summer” today.  Ken bulldozes the yard.  Kids and dogs in green trailer (before it was painted green).
27:38	December 2, 1962: Fixing the new Yard, 45°F.
27:42	Mom drives the Super A Farmall tractor in front of the old barn.

26:36	April 10, 1964: Mom’s Birthday with flowers.  Siding goes on.
27:10	Dad pulls down the (unsafe) old barn with the Super A.  Dad paints siding and old house with primer.  Kids play and watch while Dad puts drawbar on the tractor.

29:17	Mom’s first bluebird, nests in birdhouse.

Reel 4
July 1964 – December 1966

 

Continued work on the house, Mom rests on the lawn with Ginger and Jet. Jet looks longingly at a chicken on the spit (0:34), Dad works on the west end of the house, Siding goes on (1:48), Dad builds stilts for us kids (2:06).  Only Diane becomes proficient, Jacque helps with cement steps on south side of house (2:53), Big Snow during Winter of 1965 (3:59), Sue and Dave get cameras (7:11), Lucy Hetman in cap and gown (7:47), late snow on May 28, 1965.  Dad catches Northern Pike at cabin with Grandma and Grandpa on Lake Irene (8:38), Dave and Dad playing on hay-filled hayrack, Mom drives the Farmall towing hayrack; bringing in the hay (9:00), Diane and Sue with Hognose Snake that insists on playing dead (10:07), Johnny, Tillie and Lucy Hetman leave on a plane (11:54), Honey the pup chases snowballs (12:54), more big snows (13:43) which melts and floods the yard allowing the Pram Dinghy to float and be paddled around (16:32), Grandma and Grandpa Engelhardt come to visit, April 30, 1966 (18:40): more snow, Riding in Stagecoach during visit to Deer Town, Park Rapids, MN (18:57), end-to-end rainbow over field (19:11),  Jet emerges from two-story doghouse (19:47).  The doghouse was painted pink to match the house, Dad gives treats to Ginger, Jet and Honey.  Dave shows new and missing teeth at cabin on Lake Irene (20:09).  Olsons, Grandma and Grandpa visit, Sandi plays with chicken (20:41).  A chicken rides on Ginger’s back (21:08), Sue poses with chicken on shoulder, chicken gets facetime with camera (21:35), cousins play in sprinkler (21:52), Mom in tall corn (22:24).  Great-grandma Thea with multi-generation family get-together at cabin on Lake Irene (23:08).  Camping and fishing at Lake Carlos State Park (25:00).  Visting Old Mill State Park (25:40). visiting Lake Bronson State Park (26:37), Entering North Dakota (27:14), Crossing Pembina River, entering Manitoba, Canada (27:38), stopping for picnic lunch near St. Malo, MB (28:32),  an “Orbit” refuse receptacle (28:40), back into US (28:46), Pink house in the snow (29:00), ice fishing (29:42), Dad, Dave, Sue ice fishing on Dower Lake (?)
